This blog was created by friends as a way for the Souzas to share Taylor's progress with us. Kristen and Sean have not asked for financial help, but their medical bills coupled with Kristen's loss of income is truly overwhelming. They are so appreciative of ALL of the different types of support they have received and are more grateful than you can know. Thank you!
Taylor is a beautiful, vibrant three-year-old girl who was recently diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. On June 18th, Taylor began an 8-10 month hospital stay. This blog will detail her journey back to good health!

Hello everyone - Well, we are on day 2 of chemotherapy. Her first night was pretty rough. She threw up quite a lot and also received her first blood transfusion. She did well with the transfusion and had no reaction. She is doing better this afternoon with her second dose.

I received some clarification from the doctor today on her treatment. Taylor will undergo 5 rounds of chemotherapy. Each "round" will be done in the hospital for a minimum of 4 - 6 weeks. After that she will be able to go home for about 1 week and then back in the hospital. If we are blessed enough to have her go into remission after the first treatment, she will be required to still complete the entire 5 rounds of chemotherapy. So.....we are looking at about a minimum of 8 months of treatment, the majority of these 8 months will be spent in the hospital!!! We are in for a long haul!!!

Thank you all again for the many texts, posts, calls, and amazing donations. We really appreciate hearing your supporting words.

Love,
Taylor and Kristen

  1. Kristen & Sean -

I "met" Kristen and the girls in the doctor's office and we recognized each other from Chanen preschool.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the fight you have ahead of you. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you during this time. Our young children are so resilient and can teach us much about health and healing.

I hope Taylor's journey is "fast" (8 months, I guess) and complete.

    With love,
    Lisa Pinkus

  2. dear taylor, i am so happy that i was able to spend time with you again this morning. my mom said it was good that you could move over to the bed by the window yesterday and that at least you had the room to yourself…at least for a few days. i am also praying for our new friend, aleeya, and i am glad she is spending a few days at home with all of her brothers. i know that your belly hurt and you were sick last night because you told me so. i am glad you felt better this morning. i had fun making father’s day cards and watching a dora dvd with you on the bed. my mom spilled orange paint on the sheets, but tried to cover it up with a washcloth. she will try to behave better next time. how lucky we were when the nurse said you could leave your room today and do crafts in the playroom and it was no big deal dragging that big metal coat rack with us with all those tubes hanging down. i’m sorry that i tripped over those tubes. i know you need them to stay with your belly. i need to look down next time. the sock bears you made were cooool and your dad and papa and savannah will love them. even though you were tired, i know that you were happy to be with me. thank you for sharing your dinosaur chicken nuggets and carrots too. i like to eat lunch with you. i sang a song for you on my way home before i fell asleep in the car. i hope you had a good nap and that you are not going to be sick again tonight. i can’t wait until my mom takes me to see you again. i am going to bring you a present. love your best friend brynn sheckell

  3. Hey Tay Tay, it's sherigranger (one word, just like you like it!). Brynngranger (also one word) keeps asking to see you and Savannah. I told her you could ride in the backseat of our car again soon and I promise not to turn the music so loud this time. Make sure your mom reads this to you. I'd hate to have to drive back down there and start trouble with her! I love you, sweetness.
